Welcome to my blog. I set this up to better detail our vacations and cruises as we explore the world. We are an early 70s couple who live in Trilogy on Redmond Ridge, a retirement community in  Redmond, WA, a Seattle suburb, and we love to travel (Jim is the president of the Trilogy Travel Club). Kathleen and I met on the Internet in November 1997, and we each have kids from previous marriages.

Kathleen has a wonderful daughter (Michelle) who is a freelance graphic designer who is married to a great guy (Brian, who runs a high-end European auto repair shop). Jim has one of each, a son (Josh, who has been with Costco for more than 20 years) who is married. And a daughter (Jenna, who is an elementary school teacher) who is married to another great guy (Joel, who is the operational commander of the Washington State Patrol SWAT team) and one grandson (Mason) and one granddaughter (Maylee) who are the lights of our lives.

Our interests include travel, film, reading, and, for me, photography, cooking and computers--Macintosh computers. I would love to cook for you if you are ever in the Seattle area. There is nothing either of us would rather be doing than traveling with friends and family or just having fun with our grandchildren.

I know this is a crazy place to put this but I hope to figure out a better place soon.

The Steve Test

After our disastrous Celebrity Millennium cruise in May 2022 (the food was horrible), my brother Steve came up with a way to rate food and restaurants while traveling, which I have found to be more effective and easier to understand than any other method I have ever encountered. From then on, I have referred to this as the “Steve Test”.

Here's the test: If you eat in a food venue during your travels, either on a ship, (main dining room, buffet, grille, or a specialty restaurant), or on land (hotel, restaurant, street food, etc.) and that restaurant were near you once you got home, would you go there again?

That’s pretty simple. I think it's the best way I've ever heard of to rate food on vacation, and I will rate each place I eat while traveling using the “Steve Test”.
